83 E-250 Charging System Issues
OK, I bought this 83 E-250 with a 351W. It has a dual battery setup, although when I bought it, it only had one battery installed. I put a second battery in and thats when the problems began. It quit charging, and acted like a dead alternator. I have had the alternator tested, but it is fine. I have tested the battery with the engine off, at 10.5 V, and it steadily drops when the engine is running. Is it the voltage regulator possibly? And if so, just where the heck is this thing located on a van? I can't seem to find it. Oh, and I have removed the second battery with no luck in fixing the problem.

If the vehicle is off, and you only get 10.5 volts with a voltmeter, then it sounds like you have a dead cell in the battery. Each cell is about 2 volts. And with no load on the battery, it should float up to at least 12 volts.
