Rim search

Hey guys and gals,

I have been unable to find replacement studs to fit my newer style Ford rims. I don't feel safe or satisfied with the way they fit. I am thinking about going with a turbine/hurricane style wheels. I am looking for them in 5x5.5 16x7. Does anyone know of where I could find some? I have done some searching and am not coming up with anything in that size.

The style I am looking for looks like these

I have 15" versions. Three same width, one is different(have to measure to know what it is). They came on my '67 back when I bought it. Didn't know they were different til I removed the tires and saw them together.

Nothing in the 16x7 variety currently, but I check CL daily and ebay once a week.

The 15's are seeming easier to find, possibly because they are not what I am looking for. You know how you can always find everything but what you are after. I am looking for 16s because I have brand new tires on the current 16inch rims that I want to swap over. I also like the look of the 16s.

It seems like it would be cheaper to replace the hub studs with longer ones.

When you figure in all the cost of buying replacement wheels plus braking down & re-mounting & balancing.

Those Aluminum wheels mounting base is pretty thick and still don't have that much stud left for the lug nuts.

But your not racing your truck or putting any high TQ doing burn outs so should not be of any real danger just of loosing a wheel just recheck the bolt TQ on them every few mouths like with all Aluminum wheels as your suppose to do.

Ps the 73's & up have longer hub studs better to holding these on.

I've owned them and also in 16.5 for the 5 hole but they haven't made new ones in 25-30 years I bet. The only 5 on 5 1/2 16s I can find new are white spokes.

Originally I wanted to replace the stud with longer metric ones since the lug nuts are metric. I have been unable to find ones to fit given the 4 wheel drum setup.
Currently I have metric lugs on standard studs that have maybe 1/2 inch of thread holding them.

Well that sounds like a recipe for disaster. Why wouldn't you just buy the right lug nuts?

Have you tried "Search Tempest" also to look at multiple Craigslists in a geographic range?

I have the correct lugs for the wheel, but the wheels are not designed for the 5x5.5. They are from a 1997-2000 F150 and are metric lug pattern. They use the lugs with the built on washer to keep from over torquing.
With the added thickness of the aluminum wheel and the washers the studs are not long enough. Also I have not been able to find this type lug in anything but metric thread.
