Rebuilding '72 C6 (Help ID'ing it?)

Been a while..

The truck has been seldom used since I got an economy car I'll need it to haul I know for sure, and an opportunity came up to rebuild the C6 in my college class. So I've brought it in and disassembled the transmission

Planning on using Transtar for parts, looking at a cork Deluxe Kit (36008A). Also need to replace intermediate servo piston (36907 for me) and the torque converter (grooves on pump input & bushing is shot).

Transtar doesn't show me prices, and I'm unsure on some parts to use (whether or not they're the right application, etc). The torque converter for example: Mine looks just like #FM105 in this catalog: Catalogs - Transtar Industries

But it doesn't say it applies to 1972. I'm just running into things like that. I found this tag on the transmission:

(A real help, right? Here lemme try and wash it off without destroying it)

Hard to see, but I was able to salvage "D2TP" out of it. Looking at this site: FD C6F Catalog: CASE I found D2TP-7006-AA has a screw in modulator (like my transmission). However, on my case is "D3tp-7006-A1A". From that same website, that number represents a '73 with push in modulator. This confuses me because it came out of a '72, has screw in modulator, had that tag on it, and I found this in the pan:

Meaning either somebody didn't know what it was and put it back in, or this pan hasn't been off since the day it was assembled (likely, had leaks everywhere). That leads me to further believe this is the original trans, on top of the fact that this truck is completely unmolested elsewhere.

So I ask of you gurus, do I have a D2TP? I'd like to know in case whoever I call at transtar can help me choose the correct parts using the right number.

Thank you

Go D2TP. With that assembly line dipstick tube plug still in there I doubt that pan has never been off. Your truck was prolly built late in the 1972 build run so it might have gotten the (at the time) latest and greatest case.
D2TP7000BA is a 1972 C6 for a 360.
D2TP7000AA is a 1972 C6 for a 390.

Thank you sir! Too bad about the paper tag, I'll bet it said D2TP7000AA on it.

Either way, it was cool to find the cherry stem in there. Just something to hold onto for memories (:

I'm also planning on a shift correction kit, does anyone have one they strongly recommend? So far I know of Transgo & Superior, and have heard more positive things of Transgo. Whereabouts can I get a backpressure kit, too? Can't find anything on those at all

It prolly said D2TP-AA. On tranny tags Ford rarely put the basic number 7000 on them. I've had Transgo installed in the past. Never heard of Superior. Check both contents and make your decision. I've never heard of a backpressure kit either. But yes on the CJ servo.

Some caution has to be exercised on randomly changing out C-6 servos. "There are six servo-apply-lever ratios to be aware of, and you must be very careful of which ones you use with corresponding servo covers and pistons. Broader Performance advises against the use of the F 2.30:1-ratio apply lever and R servo because shifts become too aggressive and can damage your C6."

Some C-6 application and operation theory at this link.

Thanks for the heads up. I have an L cover and just went with a straight L replacement. That'll be fine right?

Transgo and superior or a combination of both is my preferred choice for shift correction. Also consider something other than transstar if possible.

Don't like transtar? I haven't had much experience with them. Just got my order though, and the only complaint I have about the shipment is the way they packaged my bushing kit. They're all free in a little bag in the box, moving around and whatnot.

Got started on the transgo kit, it looks alright. Although one page tells me to use "New Blue" spring, and all I have is a green one that doesn't look right. I'll figure it out. More pics will come
