now I'm thinking that one of the two timing chains may be broken or the plastic guides may have. It acts like its only firing on half the cylinders

A way to tell is remove the valve cover from the bank that is in trouble.
If the chain is loose other than just relaxed from no tensioner, pressure it should tell you.

My mechanic took the valve covers off and found that the timing chains were stretched and four teeth were broken off one of the cam gears. He quoted me 800-1000 for the repair which includes the full timing set and gaskets and a one year labor warranty. Gave him the go ahead, should have it back sometime next week.

Got a call to come get my truck, when I got there the garage was fully engulfed with flames and my truck was inside.

thats whats left of her. A darn Chevy Aveo came in with a fuel leak and ignited right beside her.

WOW....sorry for your loss. Sure hope that your mechanic had good insurance.
