I bought a remote transmission filter mount the other day before I started really researching where I wanted to put it and how to plumb it. I noticed most all of what you all are installing are mounts that have a bypass in them. I always thought that as long as a 'quality' filter comes with a bypass as part of its construction, you shouldn't have to worry about a stop of flow. Is that not the way it works, or is the mount bypass for extra peace of mind?
The bypass in the mount is there in case the filter clogs and wont flow trans fluid. If it wasnt when that happened the trans would melt down from lack of coolant. Im about a week or two away from getting my 4R100 rebuilt and when its out im installing a remote mount spin on filter assembly cuz Ford seemed it wasn't necessary to have a proper filter on these trucks

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever had a clogged filter tho... Seems to me if the filter is clogged, then it's too late anyways..
There was a posting a few weeks ago about black particles in the tranny fluid , whic I have also had happen to me, the fix was a transmission rebuild........so I guess you are correct....if the transmission has a situation that will clog the filter...a rebuild is probally needed anyway....makes you wonder why bother with remote filters.

Well, personally, I like the idea of a remote filter, because it gives ya easy access. Better than laying on your back and getting tranny fluid all over the place, at any rate! Plus, if you're weird like me, you could cut open the old filters, just to see if anything is happening (i.e. black particles) Kind of like grease monkey surgery 😎
