Rear fuel sending unit

Need some help guys. Rear fuel sending unit has never worked. Made one for the front tank. Piece of cake cause it is big hole. Rear tank is plastic with small hole and I cant seem to find anything close even in the Spectra sending unit picture book. Best route to replace the sweeping resistor with a new one of same resistance? Wanting to delete midship tank to make room for hydraulics.

what year is your truck??? mine is an 86, can't seem to buy sending units for diesel unless you want to give up first born child. Install a full size bronco tank in the rear (35 gallon) with the large hole 3.5 inch for sending unit. which are the new tanks, then got a sending from a Bronco 2 (the baby bronco) and modified it for the length. it has the same ohm's for sending for the 86 and older trucks... I believe the 87 and newer use different sending units.

If I new what the resistance was I could just replace the little sweep on the hanger. I will look at a bronco II. Mine has the retainer ring that just threads on. I have found several small hole from 70s cars but they don't have a return line just feed line.

just explore 'dorman' website or a parts store website like rock auto, I'm sure you'll be able to figure something out.

Ive worked at one of those parts stores for 15yrs. Advance auto to be exact. Dorman only offers the large hole unit i.e. for the front tank. spectra only offers FI gasser units. A broncoII is close but they just have one outlet and no return.

This may or may not help with your exact problem but it might give you a little more background info if you want to read through it all.

I wend crazy trying to figure everything out before I bought with limited info and resources, I finally ended up just getting into it and making things work.

Do you need the _sending unit_ (electrical part), the _pickup/return_ (plumbing parts), or both?

My plumbing is fine. I just need the little electrical part. Ive seen them on ebay for $37 just dony know resistance required. I
would take a whole unit jst for the ease of drop in intstallation but im not picky.

Some how ive been posting in the wrong thread. My phone browser does not get along with this mobile version.

Here is a link to a post that I made in a different topic on fuel senders which I just finished editing to correct a few details in my comments. It has the resistance information you are seeking, copied directly from the 1987 shop manuals which is the same design series as your 88 F350 so they should be correct for your truck.

If you scroll up from there you will also find a possibly helpful diagnostic procedure for checking the Fuel Switch Valve and with some variances you can check the the sender wiring and fuel gauge wiring.
