My ole 272 gave up the ghost and blew a head gasket a couple of months ago. So since I had a 292 "extra" I decided to build a new motor. While doing all this I decided to add my Flat-O adapter and C4 as well as Toyota power steering and a 3 wire alternator. I researched the alternator install and found an easy affordable way to add a alternator using the generator brackets. It involves a piece of 7/8th threaded rod and a couple of pieces of 1" steel. Installation was pretty straight forward.
The added pieces of steel installed on the original brackets.
Use the original generator bracket and adjusting arm.
7/8ths threaded Rod test fit will need to be cut down once everything is aligned.
My question is what keeps the added pieces from moving? Since the engine is being mocked up on an engine stand I can't test it to see if the added pieces will stay put. Anyone done this conversion?
Here's a shot of the front of my Y Block less V Belts. Ohps and water pump pulley.
Just about ready to install the engine back in the frame.
For all you Vets you'll understand mission creep! I decided to clean up the frame and paint it with POR15. I'm sure I'll think of more to do before I get the engine back in.
