One thing to not is i just replaced my outside mirrors and are identical and work fine except the new ones don't have this thingy (see pic LOL)
Would this throw a code?
any advice or recommendations???
Thanks for your help guys
Where does said thingy mount on the original mirror set up?
its found underneath the mirror. I didn't even know it was there until I took the old mirror off and flipped it upside down. I think it has to do with the outside temp sensor as the temp reading has not moved since I put the new one in. But why that would make the CEL go on is beyond me. I was able to take the sensor and wiring out of the old mirror and will plug it into the new plug and see if that fixes things after work today.
As for the CEL I drove it home and back to work with no messages or any problems so I assume that's what it is.... will find out tonight and let you know
I took the old sensor from my broken mirror and added the wires to the mirror plug and seems to have done the trick. Temp works again and engine light went off the next morning.
I temporarily just zap strapped it top the inside of the door shell until i can figure out a better place for it. I guess that's what i get for buying aftermarket Ebay mirrors.... NOTE TO OTHERS: if you buy off ebay make sure that sensor is in the new ones if your old one has it!!
You may be able to measure the resistance of the sensor and replace it with a resistor to fool the computer to thinking it is there. You won't have a temp reading however.
On some vehicles, if the temp sensor is not working, the AC will not turn on. It is a safety to prevent running the AC when it is too cold out and damaging the system. I don't know if that is true on the SuperDuty, perhaps someone can verify that.

The A/C compressor runs anytime you turn on the defroster. I have never heard of the compressor not working at a set temperature.

I had to replace the ambient temp sensor on my mother in laws car because the AC would not work. I thought it was to protect the AC system. I did some more research, and some automatic climate control systems use the ambient temp senor data to function. If the sensor is defective, the AC clutch may not engage.
