Truck will start good when cold.
After the truck is warmed up it will not start.
sounds like the starter draging, i just replaced
the starter and it still does not start when hot and it still sounds like its draging.
I have also checked the battery cand it checks out
ok.
Do you have a exhaust leak around the starter? They don't like to get hot. or have headers or exhaust pipes that come real close to the starter. If you do, go get some heat tape and wrap the pipes and put a couple strips on the starter. wrap it if you can.
OK, here's what it was with my 88 Mustang with the exact same symptoms. Cold it was fine but warm it would turn over ever so slowly and gradually got worse until you had to let it cool down before the starter would spin.
It was a battery cable that was manufactured poorly. It was failing inside the battery clamp where it is cast on the cable. I had to cut the insulation off to see it. It was so poorly cast on so there was high resistance. It would work starting cold but as time went on with things running it would get warm and then not be able to pass enought current to turn the starter.
I agree with drool. Check your cables. I had the same problem & it turned out to be the cable from the starter solenoid to the starter. Don't rule out cables just because there is a good connection at both ends. Failures can occur within the cable itself.
An easy test for this is to have someone turn it over when it is dragging while you feel the cable. If it is the cable it will get hot.
I also had this problem but mine was the ground cable. One night I was having the problem and finally got it started. When I went to close the hood I noticed a spark from the cable end. I wiggled it and it really sparked and was quiet warm. The cable was almost new and still looked it.
