I've tried searching site but have not found any info for installing upper hinge pins on my '51 F1. I tried hammering in, but bent two and gave up and used bolts. It still is not satisfactory. Any hints?
I hate to inform you, but many, if not most, of the new repro. hinge pins being foisted upon the unsuspecting hobbyist are not of the correct size. I have a couple sets of hinge pins I got from Mac's, and they all are over size. Furthermore, the head and knurl design and length are incorrect. Mac's has refused to make good on them, and has not returned my calls.
They will never see another farthing from me.
That said, what you need to do, is either accurately measure the new pins with a micrometer, then ream your hinges to size, or using pin gages, measure the hinge bores and turn down the new pins. You can also just make new pins yourself if you have a lathe available.
