Hi i have a unusual overdrive problem: can't turn it off!(Only sometimes)
I have a 250 snowpackage 7.3. When i start the motor i can see the overdrive off blink but the button will not work would this be faulty wiring causing this or is it a more complex computer problem?Anyone witch has had a simiklar problem and can help would be greatly apreciated thanks Also somtimes it will work flawlessly.
When my POC Windstar's OD Off light flashed it indicated that the transmission's computer had set a code. Then the torque converter stopped locking up. Ultimately I had a pressure problem due to a bad regulator (I think)...took a complete rebuild to correct the damage that was caused by the time the light flashed! (only 58K miles)
Hope that's not your case.
Meanwhile my 4R100 pumps fluid out of the front seal when it tows in hot weather. It's a Ford reman unit about 1 year old with about 20K on it. Original replaced at about 60K. Is it me or shouldn't automatics last a little longer than that?
When I had the same problem it scared me half to death. I was going down the road and it was flashing. It wouldn't turn off but didn't show any particular problems. When I stopped and turned the truck off the thing reset itself. I took it to the dealer and voiced my concern and fear that the tranny was on the way out he spoke to the 'stroker mech and was told it should be just the speed sensor on the rear end. Well, that was at 48,000 and now at 88,000 it has only done it a couple of times.
As of right now I have quit worrying about it. If and when it fails I'll scrape up the dough for a BTS tranny.
I have a 2000 SD Crew Cab w/7.3 auto which had to have the tranny replaced at 8900 mi because it would go in netural when you took it out of OD. Ford put a "factory remanufactured" in, claiming there were no new 4R100's because of the electronics. Now at 47000 I just spent $800 having Ford replace the front tranny seals. How many of you has this happened to? Any suggestions to keep the seals from blowing every time I tow in hot weather? I am towing an 8K# toybox - shouldn't be that much work for the truck. My pinon seal is also leaking.
Purchased a 95 F350 sevral months ago. My OD flashes if I drive more than a few hours and on occasion when driving on the interstate. My transmission goes into a pre programmed drive mode that shifts hard. If I pull over shut the engine off then back on its ok from then on. One odd thing is my backup lights haven't worked since I got the truck. Tranny is a C6 with neutral saftey and backup light circuit switch assy on the shift lever at the tranny. Though that I would replace the switch assy first to see if it solves both no backup lights and the OD flash problem. I too hope its not the tranny itself $$$$$$.
HI thanks guys i thought it would be good tio post a follow up to say what was the problem : The common faulty wires...Thank god its not a mechanical problem
Ford says that I need a new torque converter to the tune of $900. That's unsat for a 13 month old trans with only 20K miles so I emailed Ford's customer service.
That was a huge waste. They called me at work, read me the email that I had sent them, put me on hold for 5 minutes, then came back to tell me that "We are sorry, but there is no warranty or recall that can help with your problem."
Well duh! If there was a warranty or recall I wouldn't have needed assistance would I? So, I'm ordering a Performance Auto and Trans Center (PATC) triple clutch torque converter and power valve and having installed at a local COMPETENT transmission shop. No point putting in the same parts that just failed...especially now that I know that Ford won't stand behind them.
