Another "What's it worth thread"

I almost have the wife convinced of getting another EX. She has an 07 New style GMC Yukon XL Denali.

It's loaded to the hilt and really nice....too nice, actually. It's black on 22 inch wheels, low miles, electric steps, etc. But to nice to for the somewhat wear and tear are large family does to a car. She wants something tougher, more capable.

To be honest, she's not a fan of my EX. But we are limited to either a full size van, a suburban / yukon xl, one of those cool big baller nv2500 jobbers or....an Excursion!

Getting to the point...
A good friend has an 01 or 02 7.3L. 168k, white, E.Bauer, nice 17" wheels, 50% tread on all terrains. Two month old bulletproof rebuild trans job with billet whatever T.C. etc. Ts or t5 or t6 chip, new turbo, exhaust, batteries etc. DVD player. Excellent excellent maintenance and a 9 out of 10 on the interior and exterior.

Not sure on suspension or springs situation. He tows with it and if it had issues he'd resolved it. I think it has f and r sway bars, skyjacker dual steering stabilizers, and a mini pac in front of some sorts.

Bottom line about 5 months ago he listed ot for 17900 or 18500. Since then he pulled it and then the trans popped up. I called him on it a few nights ago and he said 20k is the number. He won't go lower than that and it's not "for sale" but he sell it to me.

When I bought my black 05 I went for the nicest, lowest mileage, 1 owner I could find. I bought it last year at 104k for $17750.

The 7.3 seems steep but are there too many good ones left that are under 200K for less than 15/16k? I don't think there are?

What's the thoughts on the board?

I think I might be inclined to pay a little extra to get a well sorted Ex from a friend. Getting it from a friend, you know more of the history, etc. I think with the parts on it, mileage, etc I would come at him with $16k cash money and see where you end up.

There are only so many of these rigs left and you can probably find one with lower miles or a cheaper price but with what kind of maintenance? If the guy really is a good friend and provides you with a full disclosure about what has been done and what it might possibly need, that to me is worth a few bucks more.

GL!

Edit... ugh, those rims. ... rest looks good though, and your black Ex is gorgeous!

I know for sure 16k isn't gonna come close.

20k is the number, maybe 19 but that's a stretch.

I found this one the other day near me. My wife now wants to buy it and put two in the driveway. NO WAY my wallet can handle TWO mod-queens. I just got the one we have how we want it...

Well under 200k and $16k. Looks fantastic.

That's one of my favorite colors, that looks like a solid buy.

Seems pretty high to me but then again... I'd spend just a tad more and get an 04 or 05 with the 6.0 and be better off.

Hmmm....I haven't seen the 6.0s going for more than the 7.3s, but...

2004 Ford Excursion Limited 4x4

You could spend the same money on a 6.0 and maybe come out ahead, if the critical repairs/corrections have already been done...

I'm sorry, I just don't get it ?? You have a Great X, But your wife does not like it.. SO why in H*** would you even conceder buying a VERY overpriced (I.M.H.O.) 00/01 for HER ????? I get the nitch of the X (I have 3 currently). I have owned a new 00 7.3 SD. I would buy (3) 6.8s before even thinking of what you are purposing & still have money in the bank. Oh Yea, Already did

Thank you guys for the replys.

I think knowing the background of the unit and knowing the trans job was done at a shop I know, and all the upgrades it has I can justify the price.

Harley, I 100% agree that we could have 3 gassers for the price of this diesel. But it ain't happening.

The bigger issues she has with mine are that it's too tall, tires rub, rides to stiff due to big hellwigs on the tightest setting etc.

Our options are limited with 6 kids. I just can't see selling our nice denali and getting a lessor trimmed gm model for the sake of downsizing.

So, it's gotta be another EX! I won't push it though. You're not married & together for 21 years by telling the Mrs. What to drive! We'll see what happens.

I have to throw the option of an Expedition EL out there, tons of room, capable, newer and more carlike. I loved my Expy!

just an option...

I'll take a closer look at those, might be an option. I'm all for her keeping the Denali if she wants.
