Been having some random issues with starting. Was having an issue where it was like the starter wasn't fully engaging. Sounded like I was a missing a bunch teeth off the flywheel. So I replaced the starter, and the new one did the same thing right off the bat. Seems to me like if I was missing teeth off the flywheel I'd have more issues then it not starting every now and then. And when it won't start I can turn the key off and 9 times out of 10 it'll start on the next key turn without an issue.
To top it off there are also times that I turn the key and all I hear is a clunk, starter doesn't even try to turn. But once again you turn the key off and try again and start right up.
I've never had it do both in the same start try.
I did find my glow plug relay to be cracked and one of the post to be totally broken in it. Changed it out thinking maybe something was shorting out in it, but the first time I turned the key. It gave me the clunk and no start so that wasn't the issue.
I'm not saying this starter isn't bad either as I've had a rough run of bad luck with parts from the part stores.
But what would yalls thoughts be. What can I try to do to get this fixed.
My truck did that chunk thing... Turns out one of my connections on the starter was loose.. The small post needed to be tightened into the starter. I tightened it up and I've been good for the past year.
Well I might have found my issue. I went ahead and decided to replace the starter solenoid on the fender well. I went to remove it and found it supper loose the screw holding it on I was able to just unscrew it by hand. So put the new solenoid in and new screws and so far I haven't had another issue. We shall see how it goes.
