I have a 223 with a 1 barrel Holley Carb. Sometimes I lose power getting the truck off the line. It usually happens on a hill or when hauling a load. I've been told it could be an accelerator pump problem. However, before I take apart the carb I was wondering if I should just bolt on a new 2 barrel carb, maybe one with an automatic choke? Will that help the performance without killing gas mileage?
Tell me more about these 2 barrel carbs.
I rebuilt the single barrel Holley for my 6 and it runs way better now, no flooding, idles great, no external leaks but the float is real touchy and i have had to adjust it a couple times.
I thought a carter 1 barrel would fit but my interest is stirred with a 2 barrel
amelchio,
Don't pass judgement on that OEM holley before fixing it. It's a good economical carb, used on many other engines besides Ford 223's. It's main downfall is that they are small (which is why Fenton made 2-1bbl intakes, etc.)
Adios,
Brett
I had my Holley rebuilt and all works well. Rebuild kits may not be enough as some areas of the carb may need to be rebushed. Try Red Bow restorations. They did a GREAT job on mine! http://www.redbowrestorations.com/contact.htm
