Why do you name your truck?
Just curious. I belong to many auto enthusiast forums. But I've never seen the naming of vehicles as often as I do here. Why do you name your truck?
I mean no disrespect. I just don't get it. I guess I never named an inatimate object, even my guitars or tools. Learn me something!

Naming may be extended from early maritime beliefs or maybe from those who had a horse before buying a horseless carriage and felt the need to name their automobile too.
From another source:
The importance of a boat’s name has to do with the gods known to rule the sea. In Roman mythology, Neptune is the god of the sea, and in Greek mythology, it is Poseidon who rules the oceans, living in a palace at the bottom of its depths. As legend has it, Poseidon, or Neptune, has a ledger in which every boat’s name is written, and he watches over each one of them. This is where the unluckiness of changing your boat’s name originates. If you change your boats name, Poseidon and Neptune will not know it and therefore won’t protect it. Renaming your boat is a tricky activity that must be done carefully.
In case one was wondering.........they're cousins

For me, it started when was driving alone cross country (west to east) and well, all those miles together, you just get familiar. Also to cheer it on when I didn't know if I had enough gas to make it to the next gas station. This was before the internet, cell phones, etc. You had map, compass, and some common sense to get you there.

The only vehicle I ever named was my first car back in the 60s. It was jokingly called The Blue Streak, as it was only a six cylinder. I think the practice of naming vehicles could be because of the close relationship guys develop with there cars or trucks. Heck in some cases guys spend more time working on there vehicles than they do there relationships. Not the guys here on FTE of course, most of us are to old and wise to make that mistake. LOL

I have alot of ford trucks. A 1990 2wd I drive. A 1954 Coe I drive. A 1948 Coe in progress and its donor truck 1991 4wd A 1951 Coe in progress and its donor truck a 1994 2wd A 1948 F1 in progress and I'm looking for another. I am thinking of giving them all names because if i send someone to look in one of them its like Abbott and Costello's who's on first every time.

I've only had a few of my vehicles with names... The '95 Tahoe 2 door that I bought for my daughter to drive as her first car was named "Tonka Toy" by her and her friends... My first '49 F1 had a copper color paint so she was named "Penny"... unfortunately I sold her... A while ago I bought another one and she just had to be "P2" short for "Penny 2"

When I was about 13 or 14 my oldest brother bought a race car and hauler, the car was a 39 Ford coupe with a 48 Merc flathead, the hauler was a 48 F5 with an 8BA. That was the first big truck I ever drove, just around the neighborhood. When I bought my 50 F5 it brought back memories, one of the most vivid was my mother standing in the yard yelling at me that the Orchard Park cops were gonna catch me driving it.
My Mon's name was Edith.
When I brought home the 51 F1 I told my wife that it was gonna be her truck. She took one look at the truck, still on the trailer and said, Welcome home Dollie Bell.'
That was her Mom's name.

It's funny that quite a few of us named our trucks the SAME NAME! What a coincidence.
We probably use the same pet name too. Like when you're trying to make it up a grade or through a busy intersection............Come on BIT_H!!!!
You know...........words of encouragement for the one we love.
Sorry to the guys that have a SERIOUS relationship with their trucks. I just can't help being a wise ***. I'm 54 but, my wife say's I'm 8 as far as maturity level.
