Some people just like to complain about anything. Peak tq and hp with the 6.2 is at a higher rpm, but unlike engines of 30 years ago that doesn't mean a lack of low end power. It's like the people that bash the 5.4 and talk about the 7.5 like it was touched by the hand of God, even though the 5.4 makes more hp and tq at every point above 2,500 rpm and gets twice the mpg's.

If you want torque it's laughable to say a 5.4 pulls anything you put behind it. I've owned my '03 5.4 for 8 years and towed all sorts of things with it but I certainly wouldn't describe it as a torquey motor in any way and certainly not compared to my 6.2l.

I've always driven gas and have one 7.3 workhorse in the lineup. But for daily driving I've gone from a 5.8 to a 5.4 and now to the 6.2l. I love to let a gas motor rev and breath and by far this 6.2l delivers the big grins spinning 5k with my foot to the floor.

If you want low revving low end torque, diesel is it. If you're talking gas I haven't felt real torque out of a gas motor since I sold my 87 with a 460 in it earlier this year. I should add my 460 was cammed and opened up a little so not a dog like a lot of the stockers feel like in comparison.

Per EPA, pre Gas embargo..... pre 1974...

todays aluminum headed fuel injected... tuned intake.... 4 spark plug... engines.

in 1968,,, my 1965 Impala SS 409 4 speed.. on a good day got 10 miles per gallon on High Test.... that a 3,500 pound car.. towing nothing...

or the 1969 Caprice with a 427... got 9... on the freeway.

my 6.2L has good pulling power.. and 17 mpg empty... 10 pulling 9,000 pounds,. and the truck is 6k

you want pulling stay with diesel .... Gas needs RPM's even BACK IN THE DAY

learn engine design.. you will understand.

Having spent a lot of time behind the wheel both towing and plowing with a 2v 5.4 with a 4r100 I would agree with you but now owning a 3v/5r there is no comparison. The 3v is a way better motor for towing. I've towed 10k many times and have never met a hill that I couldn't accelerate on. I do have a k&n air filter, flowmaster exhaust, and super chips tuner for what ever those are worth power wise. I also have 3.73 gears and 35" tires.

The 6.2 is like a 5.4 with a turbo, supercharger and new spark plugs! Oh yeah, and 430 gears.

Mods help even with the gas motors. None of mine are stock. My 5.4 has k&n and no cat, no tuning and my 6.2 has no cat and tuning but no CAI. My opinions are just that, my opinions and worth about what I charge for them. I imagine a jammier 5.4 with an extra gear is a whole different animal.

You are right about that its no 6.2 but with the deeper gearing along with a few other mods my 5.4 is just fine for what I use it for..

Engine swaps are only viable for like generations and technologies. A PCM never existed that would control the 6.2L engine as well as the 5R110 transmission in the OP's truck. Even if you swapped the transmission along with the engine, you can't get the later-generation PCM to talk with all the other modules in the truck.

This is possible only if you're willing to undergo an extreme amount of work, and the cost would far exceed the value of even a newer truck.

SO since I cannot buy a 6.2 to rreplace my 180,000 mile 5.4? what do I do? I am very upset/confused. my percieved options are;

1) find a wreck

2) buy a ford crate motor

3) fill in the blank-----______________________________

I don't understand, your engine failed? Why not just replace it with another 5.4? It would be relatively simple to swap a 6.8L V10 from the same generation truck, and you would gain roughly a 25% power increase at the expense of fuel economy.

I have 35s, and 3.73's under my 2012 cclb 6.2 fx4

the thing is ridiculous. never owned anything running on gasoline with that much pulling power. makes my old 2v 5.4 feel like a gutless turd and i have pulled with it for a long time with no problems and I never was hurting for power. (It is very flat here) though it did well out in Arizona and Colorado too.

but I have never owned a v10... just my 2000 5.4 2wd. this truck just broke 300k the other day! on plugs and alternators lol same chains, the same motor from day 1. I keep it around because I just can't sell a truck that's been that good to me.

I hope my 6.2 holds up like that.

MY 1985 BRONCO with a 302 " H.O. " : -X04 got 7mpg.... I was in heaven when I got my 2000 super duty ah ah

I only pull a trailer like 3 times a year... just can't justify a diesel... but I do need the towing capacity... enter 6.2L. jam up truck doing good things.
