If you are having fuel pump intermittent issues, be aware that most relays are not sealed to the atmosphere.
I was driving along and all of a sudden, no gas. Bypassed the FP Relay to get home.
Tool the relay apart and here is what I found. Relay is less than a year old!
On the new replacement I have used silicone sealant to prevent this again.
I also have had issues with that relay, although mine is not mounted on the fender. Even had some wires going to it completely burn up one time. Like, there is still melted insulator on the wheel well. Thankfully my dad is good at working on electrical stuff. But when that relay fails my truck wont run for more than 30 seconds at a time. And a peculier thing is that the original only had 4 prongs on the inside whereas the replacements i get have 5. But it still works.
For that, and other reasons I have replaced the factory style with waterproof Bosch style relays. The replacement relays, and probably the originals to begin with, just didn't have the production numbers behind them for manufacturers to spend the money making the Ford ones to a very high standard.
