Hi, I have just bought a 1994 F250HD 4x4 5.8L W with a transmission problem. The truck is in beautiful shape with 228,000 miles and has been rebuilt and cared for religiously. Paint and interior is perfect. I picked it up for a song, because owner and local shop got tired of guessing what was wrong. The previous owner spent money trying to fix it and was unsuccessful. I hoping I can find the problem.
When you put the truck in "D", it starts out in high gear. If you use the shift manually and start out in "1" it shifts fine, then move lever to 2 and then to D, it works great. Even downshifts if you don't come to a complete stop and shifts fine. The transmission shifts solid, doesn't slip or shudder. O/D works fine also. The previous owner installed a new PCM, but that didn't fix the problem. I believe it might be a wiring problem or solenoid problem. Transmission shop wanted to install a new/rebuilt auto, but owner didn't want to spend any more money on it, so sold it to me cheap.
Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated. Are there any known problems with this model (94') that might be the problem??
Im hoping we can figure out this problem, because I really like this F250.
Thanks for the quick reply. Is there a pin-out that I can test with my VOHM??? Previous owner said the reason they replaced the PCM was that there was no signal coming from the PCM. The wiring harness could be damaged or the plug. Id like to test the wiring harness and plug before I start throwing money at new parts. A wiring harness repair is a lot cheaper than a new solenoid.
thanks for any help I can get.
Ron
Awesome post, this is exactly what I need. One question though, what state does truck need to be in to measure voltage on pin1? Switch on, shift lever in "D", running??
Thanks for the help, this is great.
