Hey everyone! I have a quick question.... I have an 1988 F-250 yard plow truck on its last legs (engine tired, clutch slipping, lots of rust on frame, cross members disintegrating, everything leaks, etc.) She has seen better days.... the previous owner(s) abused her quite thoroughly. I need to get at least one more winter plowing out of it, all I plow is my 150 foot driveway for those 5-10 heavy snows we get here in a season. I am going to be replacing the inline high pressure fuel pump which is located along the frame because it leaks bad. My front tank also started leaking pretty bad at the end of last season. Is there a way to rig up a temporary tank out of a makeshift container in, say, the truck bed and have it feed fuel via gravity with just the high pressure pump or do I need both pumps (including in tank) to run the truck? Thanks! AN
EDIT - the rear tank leaks and also seems to have a dead pump in it as well, so I never used it....

Reason: Forgot some important info....
a 15 gallon portable transfer tank strapped in the bed will work fine. you can try using it without the low pressure pump, but i would put a small electric pump in line between the tank and high pressure pump.
For the cost of a temporary fuel tank About $100 plus the jerry rigging to put it in, Why not just get the RIGHT new tank and straps from Advance auto(or equivalent) for $100 and just bolt the thing in?
Do it Davids farm style, a 5 gallon bucket with the old fuel pump and assemble and attach it to the lid of your bucket securely of course. then plumb your lines back from that new redneck tank into your old lines and ratchet strap the tank in place and you are golden. if its gonna die after this winter anyways it will not matter that much. I know some guys will call me out on this but hey it will work and get you threw the winter. Basically your goal with this is to make the normal in-tank pump function as it would in a normal gas tank just in a bucket and is fairly simple to do actually.
