I have a 95 EB 4X4 Supercab with the 5.8. 306,000 miles and it's never been torn into. It's getting tired when I tow the camper with it. Only about 5,000 lbs. Looking for recommendations on where to purchase a long block. Also, can I get one built for towing (slighty larger cam, tiny bit more compression) those sorts of things and not have to change the injectors or TB? Basically I want to do a long block swap and if at all possible get just a little more power out of it. I don't really want to change the gearing. It's low enough already (3.55). Thanks for any input on this.
Yes to the tune up. I should have mentioned that it is also losing about a quart of coolant every few hundred miles. None in the oil so I guess it's going out the exhaust.
If you want a cheap torquey small block, find a good junkyard motor, preferably a roller motor (92+ I believe) Get some GT40 heads, EFI friendly torque cam, headers and call it good. That will give you some good low buck performance. Research your cam, some can use 1.7 ratio rockers to get a little bit more.
It's been a while since I've used Jasper Engines/ Transmissions/ etc. I've had the occasion to install 2 engines that they remand. I was and still am very pleased. You need to have a good rebuild-able core or you'll pay the core charge. A phone call would answer the question for price and availability. Talk is CHEEP!!
