Bottom line.....with what you've described you are just getting bent.

I've been w state farm for 18 years.
3 speeding tickets total (several years apart)
1 total (22k payout on last EX I totalled )
wife rear ended a lady earlier this year).
Other than a windshield and a vehicle break in 15 years ago, no other claims.

Rates never have moved due to those.

07 denali. $54 Month
05 Excursion $46 month
04 Impala. $68 a freaking month?
56 chevy @25k value $16 month
30 ford model A @25k $16 month
Plus
Misc life insurance /home insurance / and 2 rental home owners insurance.

All full coverage and all cars with 100 or 200 dollar deductible.

I'm told the first two vehicles have "more discounts added due to policy length".

Baffles me how a front wheel drive 4k Impala costs much more than a 20k excursion.....

I'm in Oregon

Check into a mutual: Nationwide or AMICA not publicly traded.

Liability, comprehensive, $500 deductible. $870.00 every 6 months. Pretty much the same as FULL coverage on my F-150. But my Ex is listed as my "commuter".

I pay $22 a month for mine. Liability with comprehensive. No deductible. But it is on a plan with 3 other vehicles and my house.

For all the posters chiming in with the low rates with comprehensive coverage can you post the name of the insurance company so I can call and get some rates.
Thanks

Don't forget to at least check what collision coverage adds. For a responsible adult driver with a good record it shouldn't be more than probably 25% more a month....cheap insurance!

I keep my deductibles all as low as I can on the vehicles. The difference in monthly cost is about 5/6 dollars per policy more than on a thousand dollar deductible.

Odds are you (or I) will have a claim in the time that 5/6 a month adds up to a 1k.

GOOD THREAD!

Another idea for others reading this is call up your broker and ask for a quote on a vehicle, before you pull the trigger and buy it. Costs of maintenance and insurance is part of the deal.

As others have mentioned everything factors in - your zip code, driving record, how long you've lived at a location. Even credit rating. For whatever reason those with bad credit and repos and such get into more accidents than those with good credit, and make more claims.

So the ins people give those who keep their nose clean a discount. Keep that in mind the next time some politician starts talking their usual BS about those "greedy" insurance companies.

Sent from a pay phone
yup, Credit rating also affects it.

In Staten Island also, I pay $1398 per year for 250/500 thousand coverage, 500 deductible collision and comprehensive, full glass. I also have Liberty Mutual, great rates as previously mentioned. Additional discounts if you are a MCU member.

I pay ~$1500 a year through my agent

That's with 2 mil liability, $500 deductible comprehensive. No tickets or accidents.

However, I've only been driving for 5 years... so I still get the shaft because I am a young male driver.

My mom's 2008 Sequioa is worth 2x as much as the Ex and she pays less than $800 per year. No tickets or accidents in her lifetime. This difference is representative of her driving time. A few more years and my rates should drop like a stone barring any tickets or major accidents

Currently in the process of shopping around so may update with a lower rate in the next week or so.

I have USA and they take care of my renters and car....the auto policy is just a hair over 700 every six months with full coverage. I'm 32...had an accident that totaled my Hyundai azera close to 4 years ago and haven't had a ticket in somewhere around 5 years. I hold a CDL tho I'm not sure it has any bearing on the price. I do live in the Houston area and because there are so many irresponsible people who don't have insurance our rates run a little higher than other places....I paid almost 100 bucks more for state minimum coverage here than what I had for really high coverage numbers back home in VA when I moved out in 08. Although in an interesting quirk of numbers....I moved about 3 miles further north from the apartments my wife and I moved into after we married....same road but my address changed cities....as as result it dropped about 40 bucks a month off my insurance finally I catch a break

Just got off the phone with new company for about 1175 a year compared to ~1500 a year before. 2 mil liability, $500 deductible comprehensive, $500 deductible collision.

works out to about 885 USD per year for you southerners

It's good to shop around, but some companies will try to "steal" customers, but if you read the fine print the coverage isn't even close to the same.

Make sure you're comparing like policy limits with like policy limits and not simply the monthly premium alone. Shopping on price only isn't necessarily wise.

My rates went down a bit when I turned 25. When I got married they fell through the floor. Went from over $2000 a year for the truck I had at the time to $1300. When I had a kid they went down again to $1100. I'm sure the declining value of the truck didn't hurt but most of the savings was in the liability portion. Now we're (wife and I no tickets or wrecks for her and one ticket for me) at about $2k a year between us that's four cars though.
