I have read the responses hear hope you can help me. I have a compressor that is knocking. It is rebuilt and just installed. In fact the whole system is new. I made the mistake of listening to a contact that told me I did not have to vacuum the system prior to installing R134a so I just filled it up and ran it for a while. Now the compressor is knocking. I had the system evacuated yesterday and charged it last night but an having the same results. Any thoughts?
Do i need to re-oil? If so how do you do that? Do i have to take the compressor off to do that? Could this damage the compressor if I continue to run it making that noise?
If you added sufficent oil in the system the knocking noise could just be a defect in the compressor, or there was substantial trash in the system that wasnt cleaned and the trash is eating up the new compressor. If it is an older compressor like the FS6, Ive seen them make a knock noise even when new.
I dont make much sense that you evacuated yesterday and recharged tonite. You should recharge in vacuum to eliminate air in the system. You cant pull the hoses off and charge later or you lose the vacuum. All that would accomplish is recovering the freon.
