1966 F 100 front brake conversion question.

I want to install disk brakes on a 1966 F 100 I'm building. I need to know what years will work and if Econolines are the same front spindles and hubs.
Thanks, Mike.

Mike, Most do power steering at the same time so look for a donor with same engine and transmission that you have or want to upgrade to. 73-76 for FE 352 engine, 73-79 for the 6 banger. buy the donor and get all the parts.

John, I've seen that information posted quite a bit but could you expand on the year restrictions? Mainly, why the cutoff at 76 for V8's and do the year ranges apply F250's also?

Thanks,
Rod

I can maybe clarify real quick.

The FE engine was discontinued in 1976. No way to source an FE-based donor after that year.

Yes, if you have an F250 and want to keep the 8-lug then you'd want to likewise get an F250 donor. Same year ranges apply.

The 6 cylinder 300 was built all the way up until 1996 so that's not a limiting factor for the 6 cylinder guys so they can get a donor up to 1979.

66-F250 Welcome to and the Slicks Forum.

I believe the 250 may start in 68 or 69 for donor. You got the scoop on the FE end date. Power steering pump brackets are are engine specific so we write it to reflect.

Thanks for your reply. This is a 352 based truck but it's getting a fairly healthy 460 and a tremec transmission, I'm not going to install power steering so engine brackets are a non issue. Around here pickups are at a premium and half ton 2Wds are hard to find but econolines are all over and cheap so I was wondering if anybody here had sourced them for the spindles and discs and up to what year. There is a complete 90 e 150 on C/L right now cheap .

Mike, Econos are different, and Ford made changes in 80.

Another thing, when I sell my truck I can tell the new owner that most everything below the chassis is 76. Mix-match the parts and it can be a bugger in the future to remember just which part you used when one needs replacing.

All I can tell you is that a friend was building a 66 with a 460. I cut the front axles off a 76 F100 or 150 (CRS). He just replaced the spindles. without changing the axles. Also used prop valve, booster etc.

I've installed the DJM suspion kit on the truck to lower it a bit so the truck will be far from stock. Generally when I modifie a vehicle I keep notes and put a sli

Roger Carter in Corbett Oregon installed 77 F100 disc brakes in my 66 F250 by swapping the I beams in from a 77 F100. He also swapped in a 460 and C6 from that same 77 and changed the rear end to a Ford 9 inch.
I don't know about Econoline I beams.
You might send a message to him since he is pretty knowledgeable about Fords of that vintage, having done it more than once. He's the guy I call when I have a question.
