2nd post 1996 F350 7.3 CC 2WD automatic 3.55 Stock, I think. Question: What is the blinking light on the dash right of the steering wheel and left of radio? I have remote entry, although it only has 2 buttons, and door locks. All seems to work, but I don't have any information on the operation of the system. The blinking light seems to have a button function because I can depress it. I don't know what it does or when. I know that I can't just get in the truck and start with the key. I have to first press the unlock on the remote before I insert the key into the ignition switch, . I don't have the Diesel Supplement (Just got the owner's manual in the mail today from an eBay purchase) and can't find anything about the intracasies of the remote entry/alarm system.
If the light doesn't say something, most likely it's not stock. The factory doesn't put unmarked lights on the dash. Is it an icon of some kind, or just an LED light?
I second above. At the time I don't think Ford put any kind of unlabeled blinking light in our trucks. The only lights I've seen blink are the seat belt light or the "over drive" light on the automatic's when the transmission sends a fault code. Most likely an aftermarket alarm.
If it only blinks when the truck is locked it is an alarm. My truck has power door locks and a Ford labeled, dealer installed aftermarket alarm. They are made by code alarm. Look under the dash for a black plastic box with a blue sticker about as big as a VHS tape. Mine is up above the brake pedal area.
Here's a link to what they look like. http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t...01349Large.jpg
Thanks tractorman. I'll have a look later this morning when I get around. My memory says that it blinks even when the truck's not locked. It's as if autosets, but I'll check. The truck is new to me so I'm not familiar with it all. I think that it's blinking when I get in, even if not locked in my yard. Then, in order to start, I must press the unlock button on the remote before the key will start. The press must be before the key is inserted. I can't press the unlock button while the key is inserted. At least that's what I think. PO was no real help.
Well, I just went out and looked at the truck. The door was closed from last night, but not locked. The light was blinking on the dash. Later I'll look under the dash for a plastic box. Thanks, all. Later.

I agree its an aftermarket alarm system and needs a reset.
not only is it an aftermarket security system, i bet you will find it is also an aftermarket security system with remote start that was never disabled, and you have the stock remotes that came with the truck but not the remotes for the aftermarket system.
it is actually pretty easy if you can get numbers off the box.
or if you want to just disable it you can find the starter wire that was spliced into and remove the box from that circuit and splice the wires back together. this way you can let the light blink as much as it wants to because the "brain" will be removed from the starter circuit, and the truck will start normally with the key without pushing any sequence of buttons. .
