starting problem, takes two times

86 F150 302 EFI, On the first try the engine starts easy every time, and then dies within a few seconds.

On the second try the engine normally starts easy and stays running with a little pump on the gas.

The question is what part is causing the engine to die on the first try and where is the best place to buy it?

efi engines don't have a choke, sounds almost like bad plugs/dirty injectors to me.

Try this, turn on your key for 5 seconds or until you hear your fuel pump stop running. Then try it, if it stays running, your fuel filter is plugged or your pump is weak. This is a common problem with the Fords I have owned. By the way, I wait the 5 seconds. I'm too cheap to replace the fuel pump.

The fuel filter has been replaced already so that's not the problem.

The truck is being run off the front tank only.

The duel tank fuel selector valve is stuck in the front tank position, and with the rear in-tank pump in operation the main fuel pump will pull the fuel from the front tank, so the pumps are not a problem.

Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and see what you have.

And what exactly will that tell me?

Is that something that your overheard someone say?

It will still show full presure coming off the main pump.
