Talked with a Vintage truck fan who has some history on these. It is a gasoline-electric crane.
That's what I thought when I first saw it. But a little research shows that it is a Fageol heavy-duty tractor for pulling trailers in a road train. Electric motors for each axle, including the trailers, powered by that generator. Air brakes at each wheel too.
Very cool, 47. Looks like it could pull 20 of those carts loaded.
As much time, energy, assembly and cost these took, I wouldn't be surprised if none are left today.
'46 1 ton purchased new by my grandfather. Resurrected it last year after 45 years of not running. Out for a drive before winter overtakes this beautiful South Dakota fall landscape.

Awesome truck!! It was great meeting you. Is this the truck the running boards go on?

Great to meet you too, WB! Yes, this is the truck the running boards will go on. Thanks so much for your gracious donation to my family project.
Thanks TC for the vintage cast to the photo.
Thanks to all for your kind appreciation for my grandpa's truck. It surely cost more to get it running than I could ever get out if it, but the opportunity to bring this truck back to life is priceless.
