Consider this: you have a specific 1965 casting number pertaining to a bellhousing. What new engine came out in 1965? The 240 (300). That's what I thought when I first saw the C5 references. It's not a matter of application, it's a matter of knowing certain facts. It also helps when one worked as a parts man back then and has a photographic memory.
