Hi I have a 1991 f350 7.3 Idi
I am wondering how to do an install on the ats non waist gated turbo kit is there anything I should be aware of ?and I was told there is a correct fuel setting procedure after install any tips help would be appreciated
Hello and welcome to FTE! Installing the turbo kit is not complicated but it is a tight fit and requires some patience. You will need a heavy steel pipe or digging bar or similar tool to flatten out the cab floor pan seam behind the passenger side cylinder head. This clearance is necessary to fit the down pipe in between the cab and the engine. Here is a diagram of the ATS 088 turbo kit (the ATS 085 is also similar depending on which non-gated model you have). This should at least show you how all the parts are supposed to fit together:
The fuel adjustment is a 5/32 Allen head screw behind the triangular plate on the passenger side of the injection pump. Turning it clockwise will make the pump deliver more fuel and make more power. However it is a good idea to install a pyrometer if you are turning up th fuel. Too much can melt your pistons. Black smoke is your cue that the fuel is too high. You want a light grey haze at wide open throttle. Any more is wasteful and dangerous to your engine.
Edit: here is a link to the pdf manual for installing the Banks sidewinder turbo. The kits are similar. The exact steps will vary a little but it is a good general tutorial for installing a turbo on these engines. Best of luck!
