Anyhow just the mental wanderings of a too long ago mech engineer turned software engineer...who cried when they guy drove off last Fri with my Miller welder and Hypertherm Plasma cutter, knowing my welding days are over and gone. Time takes its toll on the man.
Not to hijack here but, I feel for you. My day is coming. I was a pipe liner / construction pipe welder until 12 years ago when I landed a chemical plant job. Nice to be off the road and home every night. Always interested to read what you post.
Years ago when the emissions where first getting Started the large bore engines would have trouble with high HC. The larger the bore the more places For the HC to "hide"in the cooler outer areas and not get burned during combustion. In fact the top piston ring was moved up higher on most engines for this same reason. So if you have a 6 cyl with the same displacement as a V8, the 6 cyl will probably be a little "dirtier".

the reason for the design of the V series engine was ot would fit better in the lower and shorter engine compartment of the cars and truck designs that where (are) popular. I think the sinless biggest advantage to the stright 6 and 4 is simplisity, and costs. Less parts and simpler to cast and machine
I have been a die hard Chevy guy my whole life and still love Chevrolets to this day. Hell, I've got a 427, 350, and 327 sitting in my basement. However, when I graduated college and applied to Ford and GM (I'm in the Kansas City area), Ford was the one to call me and offer me a job. I never hated or disliked Ford or Dodge but it still felt weird buying my first Ford. I have to say, I loved my 09', and LOVE my 16'. I grew up in a mostly union family 3 generations deep at GM so needless to say I was always expected to drive any of the big 3, nothing else, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
The fact is that there will be toolish fan boys for any manufacturer. On the other hand there are plenty of people who have preferences, but can respect many other manufacturers and models. These are called enthusiasts. Which is what we are on this forum. Which is why I love this forum. A lot less dueshy biased bs here

I think you are right and I have found the folks on here a bit more open and less dogmatic. Sure we all harbor loves and stand by our favs. Me?
If you came to me and said you have just won a prize that entitles you to any car available for sale in the world, money is not a factor. The ONLY catch is that what ever you pick will the the auto that you drive for he rest of your life, you will never own another one and it will be your only car.

Good choice all around, the vehicle, axles, motor and tranny! I've never owned a Jeep but it's on my list of vehicles I plan to own someday.

Someone asked if I was crazy, that Z06 engine spins to 6500 rpm, its a race engine it won't work in a rock crawler...
Owned Dodges, Chevy/GMC, and obviously Fords. All have their positives and negatives. I look at who I think is the best at the time and go that way.
Inline 6's are potentially going to go the way of 2-strokes. I still don't think any of the big 3s diesels really meet emission targets - even with DPFs and SCR/OCRs.
I am jealous of 17Oaks Jeep build though. I built high po mustangs in the day and always wanted to do Jeep, but never got around to it... Although now I need it to be able to be heated so the driver will drive it (me). Even though I feel a little like a wuss since the guy I bought some furniture from is still riding his motorcyle... To me defense this guy was born and raised up here.
