I had to pull the bed on the truck easier to do back half work. So when I bought the truck the previous owner stated the rear tank did not work he though needed a pump. So with bed off i hit the selector switch to rear and i could hear the pump come on. Im thinking its the valve. but where is it. lol. Im also gonna just put 2 new tanks in new straps ect.
Ford stopped using the three pump setup with Dual Function Reservoir in 1989 on gas engine trucks. 1990 was the first year for the in-tank high pressure pump in each tank.
ok. so when I flip the switch inside the cab what does it do just active the different pump. Also i was changing the fuel filter on the frame rail and noticed just the one. but looks like the rear fuel lines bypass the filter. Has my truck been botched or am i missing something
thanks this explains alot. im figuring the rear tank pump is probably on way out.
That would be a good assumption. The only way to tell for sure is testing with a fuel pressure gauge. There is a test port on the fuel rail. Many auto part stores rent these gauges.
