Been a while, my friend just bought a 65 3/4 ton, we noticed that it was not charging even with a new alternator. previous owner messed with the wires near that point and it appears as if the amp gauge has seen too many amps. dummy light not working either. tested the alternator at Napa, works fine there.
Question, if the circuit has been broken at the gauge will the alternator not charge? Also I would like to see a good wire diagram showing that circuit and or the dash so I can make sure things back there have not been totally screwed up, can someone help with this also? thanks guys.
If have not already done so, suggest check the insure the 'alt' gauge circuit is correctly wired: the connections running from the alternator to the fuse/junction block, from the junction/fuse block to the 'alt' gauge are clean and secure. Same with the return circuit to the engine compartment. If the Alternator harness is spindled and mutilated there is a reproduction harness that runs around $50?
Posting couple diag. from the 65 F100-F750 Ford truck wiring manual, may find helpful. Suggest pick up a copy many Ford part supplier's carry them, or purchase direct from source; Jim Osborn reproductions for $7, I found it invaluable tracing electrical gremlins in both my 65's.
