Question Turn signal buzzzzz

My 95 Explorer Sport recently developed a turn signal problem. Occaisionally (not every time) when I use the left turn signal I hear a loud buzz & the left turn lights don't come on. If I immediately turn the signal off & then back on, the light blinks & there's no buzz.

I thought about changing the flasher element byt couldn't find it.

Any ideas?

It could be the electronic flasher unit, but with the way you describe it, it sounds like the contacts in the multifunction switch are getting bad. Relays tend to buzz when there is a bad ground/incomplete circuit and your multifunction switch is the weak point there when it gets worn or corroded.

I agree the buzz is almost always caused by the multi-function switch. Try cleaning it first. The switch cost ~$55 at the dealer. Be sure to disconnect the battery before you work on the steering column area. BTW, the flasher unit is yellow plastic and is located in the center of the drivers foot area just above the brake pedal and next to the hood release.
