I usually post in my local chapter, but thought some of you would like to see what I've been up to on the monster truck.
It now has a ladder frame to give it some tire clearance. The 66s caused a lot of problems and I've been sorting them out, one by one. I put one of my retro winch bumpers on the front of it to replace the original Warn bumper that was twisted and broken.
The front axle was rotated up for a better pinion angle, but that destroyed the castor in the process. With the big tires on there, it wouldn't turn. So the pinion angle was lowered back down and some pump modifications were made. Now it steers like it should.
I also cut the nuts off the truck with the taller tires. I needed more gearing to make it run again. I installed a second T-case behind the first one and got my final drive ratio from 8.70:1 up to 10.56:1.
It's coming along, but I still have work to do.
This is NOT a body lift! I actually took the body lift out. The body bolts down tight to the body mounts that were raised up on the now 20" thick frame.
....and we have a way to get it around, too. It'll work for now until I can find something heavier duty.
At least now it's useful and it's starting to pay me money back with displays and events. It's a blast to drive, too!
Well, a little update. I broke it today. .....twice. First I got it hung up on the white car, then I broke the coupler in between the transfer cases. I fixed that, then I'm pretty sure I broke the axle. .....I actually think the axle was broken before this. It wa pushing the cars instead of climbing them. .....That means I did a car crush in 2wd. Not bad.
Car crush in 2wd, now thats built ford tough!! Nice work on the upgradestoo. I'm a big fan Alan would still like to see it sometime, so if you're ever in Iowa you got to let me know.
