1985 headlight switch replacement

1985 F250. No headlights, no marker lights, no dash lights. The only lights working are the turn signals. After reading several post and doing some basic troubleshooting I decided to check the headlight switch. The light switch is junk. Corroded to the point that when I disconnected the switch one of the male blades broke off and is seized up in the female connector. Ended up braking the wire from the back of the connector, and the blade is still stuck in the connector . I would like to replace the connector, does anyone know if the connector is still available?

You can get the connector pigtail from Motorcraft or in the aftermarket from Pico.
I think they are also sold on repairconnector.com
Be sure to get the one with the correct number of pins.
Check the tan/white wire in your harness isn't melted.
Adding a headlight relay system under the hood takes a lot of the load off that switch and keeps it from cooking.

The tan/white tail light fuse wire is the bad terminal on the connector. Looks like a combination of overheating and corrosion. A connector with pigtails I can solder to existing wires would be great. I have read up on the headlight relay system, looks like the way to go.

Yeah, that's the one!....

Protip: Unwrap a bit of the harness and check that wire hasn't melted into any others.
You will do that anyhow if you are going change the plug.

Protip #2: Cut some of the pigtail wires to various lengths so there's not a HUGE wad of splices all in one place.
Leave the tan/white wire as long as it comes.

Carquest used to have that pigtail.
NAPA may stock it, idk...

I think I found a connector on repairconnector.com, except it has side clips with 9 wires, and says its for 1986 thru 97. My connector does not have clips and only has 8 wires. Not sure what the ninth wire is for, maybe its a spare. The pins look correct and its only like $12 with shipping, might be worth a try. (Pico Wiring sku#5311C).

You really should get the eight lead plug:

ETA: Doh! Im an idiot.
I'll look in the Motorcraft catalog

I find it hard to believe that they are not offered in the aftermarket.

Thanks for the pro tips. For now I was able to remove the old crusty male blade from the connector. I Used a very small drill bit and cleaned out the slot of the connector. Crimped a new female blade connector onto the tan/wht wire. After connecting the connector to the switch I pushed the new female blade thru the connector hole and onto the male blade. I changed the original marker light bulbs to LED's to reduce the amps going thru the switch. This is just a temporary fix. I may have to go to salvage yard to find the correct connector.

Grab some relays off of a truck as well to use for your relay mod.

You dont need five, but there are several makes and models that have two piggy backed together under the hood.
