ESP Warranty, pulling the trigger

Been researching the various plans and costs. When it comes down to it on a side by side comparo IMO the ExtraCare plan is the big winner. The Premo plan, yea it covers a 1000+ things, many of which I don't have and if the "Safety Belt Warning Chime" stops buzzing I will be better for it far as I am concerned.

The big hit cost wise out of warranty is in the engine bay and the only diff between the Extra and the Premo is the PCM is cover on the Premo. Those are not that exp, as in the few $xxx buck range.

On the side by side the major diff is in what Ford calls High Tech.

IF anyone has any other opinion, please voice it I would like to hear, I might have missed something on this...Thanks in advance.

Final cost: Looks like Flood Ford??? https://www.floodfordesp.com

This:
ExtraCARE Contract
$200 Deductible
8 Years
100,000/125,000 Miles Coverage
4x4 or All Wheel Drive Model

$1410/$1875

Anyone know of a better deal and anyone have thoughts on 100k vs 125k miles. I am not likely (I don't think) to hit 125k, my truck is not my daily driver I have another car for that.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Premo covers Mirrors.....that is unless Ford determines you hit a mesquito and it left a mark.

The other semi large difference is the emissions not being covered. That being said, I never took the time to compare the differences between the two. I was planning on going in whole hog wild this next year. Now, I will be doing a bit of second guessing as to what one I go with. The savings is almost $1K.

In the grand scheme of things the cost savings is the equivalent of a couple tanks of fuel a year.

I'll probably go with the premium when I get mine.

The ESP also gets you a loaner vehicle if they have to have it over 4 hours. That has paid off on simple things like the sun visor garage door opener replacement. Let a rear or overhead sliding widow quit working. That will more than pay the diff.

I bought the premo with $0 deductible... And then for an extra $55 added the better rental car, since being in Alaska those rental car prices are at sticker shock level during the 'season'. Granted, I paid $1385 for the 6/60k since I doubt I will keep this truck longer than 6 years and a doubt I will hit 60k miles either. I've had the truck for about 15 months and I have 8k miles on it.

And being in Alaska if something should break it is possible that the part could take a week or more to get in. Just one of those episodes and my warranty is about paid for... I hated bringing my 2011 in as I never got a loaner, because I didn't buy the ESP. At Florida mandated ESP prices it wasn't worth it, IMHO. But at Flood Ford prices, which my AK dealer matched, it was to me.

Obviously, you do what you think is the best and hopefully you never have to find out whether it was worth it or not.

My other thought is that when I buy an extended warranty, it usually means nothing breaks. And that is perfectly fine with me.

I would be more than willing to spend 5k more for my truck if it meant it wouldn't break.

I bought the Dodge...but also sprang for the extended warranty. When a diesel breaks....its rarely cheap.

That being said, there are many brands / types of vehicles where I believe the extended warranty is a waste of money. A diesel is not one of those types.

How's the Ram holding up, how many miles, and most importantly, still in love with it?

How many times to the shop for those pesky recalls? Not a lot happy campers over at the cumminsforum over these non stop recalls. The one that's really bad is the poor quality control on the front suspension weld.

***I've been having a lot of problems with IE 11 truncating my posts on this forum...I'm trying again with this one***

So far so good. Would I say I'm in love with the brand, obviously I'd be kidding myself if I said yes at this point. I'm not impressed with the recalls, buy backs, and overall handling of quality control at FCA. Would I buy a new Ram today? That's tough. I'd probably buy a GMC Denali if I couldn't wait them out to see how they repair some of these trucks. Otherwise, I'd be line at the Nissan dealer. I've always owned Japanese cars until my Ford 6.4 and I've honestly not been impressed with any of the Big 3 since.

That being said, the truck has about 10,200 miles on it with about 3,000 towing. I keep track of mileage, but I don't have my overall mileage since I haven't put the numbers into fuelly in a long time. I'll say that pure highway mileage is slightly over 20mpg empty at 75mph. Towing is in the 14s with my flat bed. DEF use is a little higher than both of my Fords. Its probably around 1.2 gallons per thousand miles.

I've not had any dealership visits to date. The truck's performed flawlessly. Are there things I'd steal from Ford? You bet! Tow mirrors, the Torqshift, and the front seat padding (but not surfaces...The Longhorn is better trimmed than the King Ranch IMO).

I have 2 open recalls on the truck.
1. Side impact airbag computer needs reprograming
2. Uconnect needs a software update to prevent hacking.

I'd be pissed, however, if I owned a 2013-2014. Their track bars were welded onto the front axel by a human and that human had very poor penetration in the weld which is causing cracks and can cause the track bar to come off of the axel. I'd be pissed if I owned one of those trucks and it DOES make one suspicious about the lack of QA on the rest of the truck. Luckily, FCA says that for the 2015 models, they went to an automated process for welding.

I'm glad to read this. I seem to remember you being very unhappy with and moving on to the Ram. Glad it worked out so well for you.

Any thoughts are welcome.
The belt minder can be easily turned off. LOL...

On the rest, I can't help. I don't and never will buy an extended warranty...

The premium 8 year 200000km warranty is $4900 here in Canada.
I wish I could buy it in the U.S but Ford put a stop to that.
