Help please

I have a problem 96 f250 7.3 not exactly sure it only dose it in park and very little in drive. Rpm goes up and down a lot than after about a minute if doing it it shuts off what are common problems that could cause this? Someone told me it could be the throttle sensor or fuel pump? But need more answers before tearing into it please what do u think it could be?

Probably get better response in the 94-96, 7.3 section. Maybe a moderator could move this. Would be nice with more info from a scan tool like oil pressures and codes. How many miles, oil in good shape, any check engine light?

Ok today I was driving it and it sounded like it was starving for fuel. I got home popped the hood and it stopped right away could it possibly be the cold air intake. Ok. Y would it stop right away when I popped my hood? It was going to die at a stop light today but I pushed on the gas peddle hard and it didn't die. It was through codes also have another problem when my truck through codes the tranny acts up too. Engine oil is fine and miles un known as cluster broke

Sounds like the UVCH plug in's might be burnt. Maybe also put in a new CPS, make sure its a Ford or International one, parts place ones are junk.

What's the uvch. Ik cps is crank position sensor I also have another problem. Believe my glow plugs are bad. At points when I go to start the truck just the starter kicks in??? Believing glow plugs turn the key wait about 30-40 seconds from when the wait to start light comes off it starts finally? Bad glow plugs or??? It's a 96

UVCH=Under valve cover harness It connects the glow plug relay to the glow plugs via the valve cover gasket. If you look at the valve cover gasket, you will see 2 wiring plugs on each gasket. These plugs connect to the glow plugs and injectors. The glow plugs pull a lot of juice, and if the connections aren't perfect, heat builds up burning the pins, and/or melt the connectors. If you are experiencing hard starts, this may well be part of your problem, along with some bad glows.

You can check the fuel pressure at the Schrader valve on the fuel bowl. the valve looks like a tire valve stem. The fuel pump is mechanical, so you need to check the pressure with the truck running if possible. You should have 60-70 lbs. while the engine is running. A cheap pencil type tire gauge works to check fuel pressure, but the fuel will ruin the gauge for tires. Has the fuel filter been changed lately? A dirty fuel filter can cause problems as it will starve the engine of fuel.

Has a fairly new filter on just starting to get dirty. But I could replace it again and see if that helps any again

Its not the fuel filter .The truck will run with 10 lbs of fuel pressure . Get someone to put it on a scanner & get some real time data . I suspect oil pressure issues .

I'm not sure what you're saying here. did you get a "Check engine light", yes or no? Can you retrieve codes with a scan tool or reader?

I'm sure dying when opening the hood was coincidence.

Low fuel pressure would be more noticeable under acceleration, but also great place to check.

At one point he said it stalled but the bowl was full . Then it ran for ten more minutes .
