SO ive been after this problem for a while now. When my truck has been sitting for 2 days or its a semi cold morning (35 degrees) the truck has a problem not starting. Ive changed the fuel pump, the starter (my starter was going bad anyways and I thought it could also solve the problem I was having), and the battery was just tested. If I leave my key on Acc for like 10 seconds then try to start, it starts right up or if I just re-start right after the first. Now I am leaning towards this being a fuel pressure problem but im not sure where to start with that... help! lol My mechanic also said that it could be the wire that connect to the battery terminal because they can get corroded.
My 98 3.0 has been doing that for years. It only builds up about 15 psi at the fuel rail when the key is turned on. I cycle the key on and off, letting it charge 2 or 3 times. Each time I cycle the key, the fuel pressure increases by about 10 to 15 pounds. When it gets to about 45 psi or so it will start and run. After its running, it maintains 60 psi at the rail. The colder it is outside, the more times I have to cycle the key. I was told that the regulator is part of the fuel pump so I'm going to live with it until it gets worse or quits altogether. The old truck has 261,500 miles on it and I just run it as my beater now. I have a tow dolly so when it quits, its not going to be a big deal.
