The first time a 17' parks next to a "new" 16', the gravity of making payments on a truck that looks/is old and prehistoric will set in.
Shouldn't even be a remote thought, go with the new one.

Get the 16, don't be a guinea pig for a brand new model. I let my wife make that mistake with a 15 Subaru Outback, and I had a lapse of judgement and made the mistake with a 15 F150. The F150 is gone and the Subaru is a lease so she is stuck with it for another 18 months.

Let others work out the bugs for a couple years. The small improvements and changes Ford will make on the 18, 19 and up models will make you want to trade up anyways. That's my plan, I just bought a 16 and will run it till the new model is proven solid.

Not that rumors are reliable 2 years out, but I've read multiple times that the '19 will start incorporating changes to meet the new gov't standards. That sounds like less power or more complexity to me. I suspect the best year for a super duty will be 2018. I'm planning on getting a '17 though.

I just took all the worry out of wanting a 17. I just sold my 2015. Tired of chasing the new model, depreciation, money pit etc.

Love having a New truck, just not worth the price anymore. A 2017 high trim level will MSRP around $75-$78. Get X Plan on it and a $1,000 rebate you're looking at $70 grand.

I Love even more not having any truck/car payments!!!!!!!

Smart man right here! I'm about to that point too. These car MFG's are gonna put themselves out of business with the pricing of these rucks getting so high. Won't be long before a well equipped truck is over $100K.

When I get to that point I will probably find myself a lower level gas truck as my forever truck, as I don't want to be dealing with expensive engine or electronic repairs out of warranty on a truck I plan on keeping for a long time.

Right now I've got the disposable income to support having a truck that has a warranty but I don't know how much longer I will be in this game, unfortunately.

Simple, don't get a well equipped one. The F150 still starts around $27k, and the SD starts at $34k, before rebates and discounts. Luxury cost money and people don't have a problem spending it. If you think Ford is going to price themselves out so long as you "need" leather, then you're fooling yourself.

I'm always worried about the first model year in a redesign. I like the 2017's looks and the list of new, improved features is impressive. I cannot wait until 2018 so It's either a 2016 or 2017 for me. I'd like to see power figures for the 2017. Anyone know when those might be published?

This is a tough one. I am at a point where I can pay for a new truck with cash. The Friends and Family deal is not the greatest for a truck that is going to be obsolete in 8 to 10 months. However, the dealer I am working with is going to give me a pretty good price for my 2014 Ram. If I buy a new truck, I have to order it since its a F450. The fact that Ford keeps advertising more payload on the 2017 is what is keeping me from buying the 2016. I'm also sure that I would miss things like auto windshield wipers, push button start, etc that my Ram currently has. Does the current F150 have auto windshield wipers?

You're going from a RAM (1500?) to a F450, yet curious about the F150 features. I'm confused - what are your truck needs? Sounds like you're trying to justify something you might not really need... just sayin'

But, in all seriousness, get rid of the Ram while its still worth anything. Should have gone blue-oval in the first place. :-)

1500? Hell no, I have a 3500 DRW. I have an Arctic Fox 1150 Camper, Ski Nautique tournament boat, the wife's warm blood 3 horse trails west trailer to haul around.

I think you'll agree on my tuck choice now.

I was one of the 1st people in line for the 2011 6.7. I bought a Tuxedo Black Lariat built in March of 2010. Although I never had a real problem with my Truck, I know a lot of People who did. I thought about waiting on the 2017, but didn't want to be another 1st Edition Guinea Pig. Besides I liked the look of my 2011, and decided to go into a 2016 truck. I only owed $4800 on the 11, and got $37500 trade in on it, so the 16 only cost me about 30K to pay off. After 5 or so years of tweaking by FOMOCO I feel that most of the Bugs have been worked out. I will be happy with my 16 for the next 4 yrs.

I would go with the '17 model. I also suspect that Fords 2nd gen Power Stroke will be the same engine that will go into these new Super Duty's but with more HP/TQ via different tuning.

The dash board and interior items and aluminum production bugs should be worked out via the F150 production.

Improved and stiffer frame should make suspension tuning more accurate and yield a more refined ride to some extent.
