Failing Pressure Test
I have a 1996 Ranger SC w/4.0L. It is passing the Emissions Inspection. It will not pass the Pressure Test. So far I have replaced the Carister Purge Valve and Solenoid Assembly with new one from Ford. I have also replaced all hoses from the gas tank forward to the canister. There are no error codes at this time. It has been three weeks and 350 miles since the computer was read and the engine light turned off. Had temp code, replaced water temp sensors. Fixed that problem. Tonight was the third try at passing the emissions test here in AZ. Right now I am to frustrated to think of what else it could be.
Any help or thoughts on this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks
They are pressure testing the evap system. The line from the gas tank is pinched off at the evap canister. They then place a cap on the inlet of the gas tank and apply air pressure. It must be able to hold .5 lb of air for a given time. So far they have not be able to get it to hold any pressure they say. The cap is not on the tank at this time. The cap is checked by itself and checks good.
I hope this helps. If not I will try to get more detailed information on the test they are performing.
