Dumb question.... how finicky are C6s to being driven low on fluid? Checked it last time it moved, 2yrs ago, was fine. Never noticed anything weird until i was almost home, was delayed going into D then wanted to start in 2nd. Put around almost 2qts in so far. Drove 150 miles this way, all highway. Never did slip or anything "bad". Also, if it shifts too late from first, and too soon from second, what needs adjusted? If you stand on it, it will hold first to the governor for 3-5 seconds, shifts from second around 2700. Also, the flash on the converter seems retarded high, like 1700-1800? Thats when it will spin the tires anyway.
They are pretty tolerant of low fluid. And as for the convertor flash, welcome to the world of a 460 convertor in a diesel, the dually does the same thing, its getting a low stall if I ever get time to swap it.
The shifting is what he said^^^ or weak springs, light shift kit helps this .
After topped off 2-3rd is fine now, right at 3300, still holds first too long. The innernets told me that the starting in 2nd thing could just be a sticky governor in the trans, makes sense as it sat for a couple years, and shifted fine before. The fix for which is supposed to be nascar mode in reverse. Being free, going to give that a shot and see what happens. It will downshift from 2nd to first if you go to the floor, im guessing, but that sounds like the kickdown is adjusted, but the vacuum thingy may not be. Guess i couldve mentioned it, vacuum pump might have 100 miles on it, changed it right before it got parked.
I fully agree on the lower stall... i thought the converter was going out, just wanted to know if it was normal or not. Thanks guys, will update on the 2nd gear starts when i get a chance to figure it out.
Well, strike one. I tried the measures mentioned here- https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-2nd-gear.html
But it was for naught. Still starts in second, run it about a 1/4 mile in reverse, when that didnt work i put it on jack stands and ran it for about 5 minutes pumping the throttle and running it about 3k. Sounds like as much as i dont want to, the pan is going to come off. Hopefully something relatively straight forward. Might put a diesel shift kit in from Idaho transmission along with a low stall converter when i put the other engine in... I despise putting money into something that im going to sell, so if anyone has any brainwaves let me know.
