Been researching 7.5 maf swap on my 1997 f350 cc. Can someone explain to me the difference in the raceology and ist kit other than price. What im seeing ist is complete and uses 2 o2 sensors and fiveology has 1 o2 sensor.
IST thinks very highly of their kits(price), I have no direct experience with either of these but it appears there is no significant difference between either of them except that IST gives you a cover and Y pipe for the stock airbox.. but a lot of good that is to somebody with a built 460 because they're not going to use the stock airbox.
Both of these companies use scaled MAF meters with larger injectors, that is a hack that works OK at the next step up from stock sized injectors but the further from stock the motor the worse street drivability gets, to get the best of any MAF system on a modified motor you need a tuner so that the computer has accurate numbers to work with.
If I'm not mistaken all the factory OBD1 MAF systems use two O2 sensors.. both upstream one on each bank. Fiveology appears to be doing the same thing Ford did with the truck MAF conversions kits, and that is since all the SD trucks come stock with a single exhaust and a single O2 sensor they simply Y that into both O2 inputs on the MAF computer so that the kit is totally plug and play on a stock truck. But with a little editing you can plug a second O2 in, I did this with the Ford kit I had on my F150, and if you do a true dual exhaust it wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.
And if I wasn't doing so many other add on's at once I'd have my conversion done by now. All of the Fiveology stuff is pretty easy to install if you are mechanically apt and careful at the same time. Moving those eec pins around is nerve racking. Mine is mildly built and I plan on running the stock airbox w/ a k&n drop in that I clean regularly, and intake tubes from a cali truck. I'm not saying this is correct, but it isn't too hard to swap to a FIPK filter if the airbox doesn't breathe well enough.
Thanks guys just didn't understand why one product was so much more than the other making sure I was not missing something important. Im going to put a mild 460 efi together for my 97 crew cab build and was looking into if this is something I want to do.
I went with the fiveology kit because of price. I too thought the other kit was over priced. I have had nothing but excellent customer support from Brian B. at fiveology. Piece of advice; don't do 10 other add ons/mods at the same time you do a maf swap.
