5.4 surging/rough idle

I have a 2003 f150 5.4 239k miles and never had any issues with it, but recently it started having a rough idle when started, I have an Obd2 reader and it pulls the p1132 and p0135 codes, it sounds like a misfire on 1 or 2 cylinders, basically like its cammed, but it's all stock besides exhaust, when I drive down the road and get on it. It has no problem but when I let go and start cruising it starts shaking the truck, I usually put it in overdrive to pick up the Rpms and that usually does the trick but it concerns me, it's a beautiful truck and I love it but I just don't know where to start, I'm mechanically inclined with engines and I know just about everything to know about carburetors, just not fuel injection, ecu and what not I'd appreciate any help

Both codes point to O2 sensors (specifically Bank 1, Sensor 1), with that many miles I would start with replacing the O2 sensors, but getting the old ones out could be tricky if they haven't been replaced before. I replaced mine at 190k and broke an exhaust manifold trying to get one out (on a 4.2L so maybe it will be better on the 5.4L?)

You could also start by inspecting the O2 sensor wiring for damage.

Code:
P1132-Lack of Upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor Switch - Sensor Indicates Rich - Bank No. 1

Code:
P0135-Oxygen O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 1) -
This code refers to the front oxygen sensor on Bank 1. The heated circuit in the oxygen sensor decreases time needed to enter closed loop.

As the O2 heater reaches operating temperature, the oxygen sensor responds by switching according to oxygen content of the exhaust surrounding it. The ECM tracks how long it takes for the oxygen sensor to begin switching. It the ECM determines (based on coolant temp) that too much time elapsed before the oxygen sensor began operating properly, it will set P0135.

Hope this helps

So the o2 sensor is most likely messed up and I'll need to buy a new one, because it looks alright and the wiring is a-okay. Thanks for your help. I'll try and get back to you when I get one

Check your EGR tube to see if it's not corroded or unhooked down at the drivers side manifold. Just went throught this with my 2000 and had the same issues before I replaced it.
