f250 ld that does limited duty as a tow/plow truck. It also does short trips with a slide on camper, around 1200 lbs in both summer and winter.
As posted in another thread, I am getting some dedicated winter tires.
Tire Rack has Blizzaks for about as cheap as a studded winterforce, maybe cheaper than a studded Altimax.
The only plowing I do, other than the occasional favor, is my steep driveway. It has a tight corner that gets icy- manageable by only plowing down hill. It also has a few spots that get water ice that can remain as the bottom surface for months. Every now and then, I get stuck on ice. It sucks. It turns a 10 minute job into a 2 hour ordeal.
I ran studs on my older truck without issues. I currently chain up to really clean the driveway, and have to be careful without chains.
Seems like some tests rate Blizzaks as good as some studded, even on ice. But those tests are on cars.
For the use you describe go with the studs.
Only thing about studs is watch aggressive driving on wet or dry roads.
There can actually be less bite on hard road surfaces with studs.
Good luck.
