AOD column shifter slop! Help a brotha out!
Okay, my column shifter has a considerable amount of slop in it. For instance it is pretty difficult to tell the difference between OD and D and is very annoying as I don't used OD for city driving.
Any pointers on how to tighten up this shifter?

This can be adjusted under the truck on the shift linkage. My truck did this for 16 years and I never thought of fixing it when I was working on the truck. When I put my new tranny in after the test drive I was determined to fix it. When I was in drive it would move so the orange slider moved off the D so it looked like it wasn't in drive. I had my wife sit in the seat and shift it into D, I then took the shift linkage bolts loose on the shaft that comes down from the firewall and moved it till she said the D was all orange. It has been perfect ever since. It took a couple times of moving it to park and then back to D to get it right.

Look for loose fasteners or worn plastic bushings in the linkage at the firewall and going down to the transmission.

I will check them both. If some of my rubber is bad, where would I go about picking up the replacment pieces?
