Ok so to start things off this has been my problem, lately....
I've been having trouble starting the truck if it sits for a few days. But if I drive it daily and crank without glow plugs then it will fire up great. Let the blowouts warm up and it struggles a second.
One day going down the road my battery gauge all of a sudden dropped to 9 v and it would go back to 14 v after 2 miles then it'd drop to 9v after a few more miles. I got it home and shut it off, for shirts and giggles I started it. It started fine. The gauge read 14v for a few seconds abd dropped to 9v after 10 min. I went under to hood to clean the terminals and I happened to touch the gpr. And the big wires were hot. It was fine for about a few hours then the same ****, as before. A few nights ago I was coming home and my batteries were just drained. Brand new batteries 1k cca I got under the hood again and seen my glow plug connector for 1&3 was smoldered, as the same for inside. So I got a new gasket, harness and glowplugs and I'm still having the same problems. The only way my batteries will charge is if it is over 2500rpms.

Did it read 14 immediately? I'm guessing the GPR is shot, though why it would close on its own confuses me. Maybe something is telling it to close at the wrong time, two wires crossed somewhere?
It's almost certainly worth getting the alternator checked at the local parts store to make sure your voltage regulator isn't bad, but I'd be shocked if that's the problem with the hot GPR. But go ahead and check the wiring while you're at it.
It reads 14v immediately and then a couple of seconds later it drops. The bolts that hold the got to the pedestal are broke off in the threads so it's just kind of there. Never had a problem with it for.the last month, 6500 miles, I had it. The alt seemed pretty hot when I touched it today
Um, why isn't it mounted? I don't know how the relay might fail closed just from lying loose like that, but it's not a good idea in any event. Come to think of it, it might be bouncing up and hitting the hood, and bridging the two contact circuit terminals. You should have a boot over the always-hot terminal.
Did you check it electrically to see if it's case grounded?
