most of the time.. only the options for your model.
best way to know.. find a truck with the options at a wrecking yard.. and look for its connectors for that option .. an see if your truck has the same connectors.

I see what your saying, it's hard to believe they have a different harness for each sub trim level.
However I would also doubt an xl and a platinum would have the same harness.
Waiting for some with real knowledge to chome in, I'm only giving an educated guess.

the harness behind the dash itself tends to be universal from what ive seen with mine.. but once you go to the interconnecting ones they dont always.. for instance behind my dash i have the plugs for the rear power slider window and the shift on the fly switches.. but neither actually exist on my truck. and there doesnt seem to be a corresponding harness for the other side where it would have connected to say for example the window motor in the back doesnt seem to exist. didnt find any loose plugs for the shift on the fly unit either.

the XL is the lowest cost.. and the most wanted by Fleet users.. so cheaper...
the mid level and up units might share wiring.
White, bed liner, No chrome, vinyl flooring, with trailer package... = Fleet unit..
Like I have and wanted.

mine is only an XLT.. not really the bare base.. but also not the mid level either.. Lariats id consider being mid-level. but chuck could be right.. the XL might be 100% different for harness.
