Should I keep her?

I have known this Excursion since I was 11.
My mother pulled into my Schools parking lot with this big SOB.

Now 26, she has given me it.
She has taken care of this Excursion since she bought it new off the lot in 2000.

The problems with the Ex is no 4wd, No heating in Leather Seats (I now live in Texas, don't matter), and rust because the Ex originally lived in Ohio.
The driver side runnerboard is rotting off. Other then this, it runs perfect.

I want to trade this in for a Truck, my biggest issue is the MPG, but honestly, I knew it was a gasser, v10 and all, Limited Edition of course. Never been used for towing. I have no need for towing. Infact it no longer has its hitch. I know KBB says about 5k+ for this being in it's condition.

Or, should I keep it? I am afraid of its upkeep, I know nothing of how to keep maintenance on her.
I would like to do it all on my own if I knew what I had to do, I am not found of Mechanic shopes. (Though, since I am very limited in any vehicle upkeep, I know i'd need them at some point)
Right now she needs new oil, I can do this.

Also, if I did keep her, what are some tweaks I can do to her? Anything to obtain better mpg? More HP? What is a recommended tire pressure for a 80 PSI tire (I have them at 65-70, my mother had them at 50-55 PSI)

Also, I do not need 4WD, but, i'd like to have the 4wd back, if it didn't cost much. Or If I knew what had to be done.
What are my options? If any, or I could sell it, and fix up a 2005 Subaru Forester.

Thanks to all who can help.

Welcome to FTE.

Value of the vehicle vs what you really want. Do you like it?

Is it a 4x4 Excursion? Why doesn't it work.

I would get the hitch back on there ASAP. They are to remain as protection for the fuel tank.

Before modifications I would look at general maintenance. Fluids, tune up, belt change things of this nature. Get something to monitor the Engine and transmission, a scangauge or ELM bluetooth adapter and tablet .

Better MPG's, keep your right foot light on the pedal. HP and drive-ability look at 5star Tuning, gears, and headers.

Forester head gaskets done? Probably would keep the Excursion over the Forester as you can grow into it. But having a small daily driver is nice as well.

Hey Bently, thank you for replying back to my thread!

It is a 4x4, I forget why it does not work, i'll ask my mom and she can tell me why.

I think the Hitch was taken off because of rust. Again i'll have to confirm this with mom. plus it was going to cost $250 to put it back on. (Expense she wanted to keep down). But if it is necessary I could do that.

Yes, I need to learn how to keep up with general maintenance, if I am to keep this Excursion, I want to do it right.
Its had a Tune Up not to long ago, fluids besides oil I do not know.

I have no clue about the forester, I just know it needs about 2500 worth of repair done to it. Including belts and such.
I was thinking about saving the cash up to fix it.

If I was to say, trade this for a truck of equal value or such, what would I be looking for?

From your post it looks like you don't need an X & you'll be driving a 10-8 MPG tank for nothing. Better MPG & more HP are diametrically opposed but the as answer is no & yes

Hey Harley, surprised I can not message you, might be due to the fact I am new.

I am interested. I need something more for getting me around to work and such then driving a tank.
I am located in Odessa, TX, so I hope I am in a good location.

That Honda reminds me of my old Mercury Sable.
I am a rather big and tall guy, so as long as I can get into it, i'd see no problem with it.
The seats would have to be fully adjustable.

So hit me up and let me know. Thanks - Jacob

(Milage is about 176k)

Oh? Nah I still claim title to being the 26 year old virgin and counting.
At this rate I will be able to beat the movie title of the 40 year old virgin.
Well, I still got some time to go.
Keep trying.

Nic, you guys keep this up, i'll end up scaring both ya'lls with my insanity. We've already derailed my thread. So that is a start of something good. (In my history, it wouldn't be a thread I started if it didn't get derailed. Ya know...like the Crazy Train)
