EGR Valve????
My engine, '89 4.9L, has a bad miss-stumble to it while driving, either accelerating or cruising. I read all the post about blocking off the EGR valve and it made no difference. I also drilled a .250" hole in the aluminum plate that I used to block off the valve and that made no difference. It also happens during hard acceleration. I checked the timing = 10 degrees. The spark plugs and Belden wires have 20,000 miles on'em, and look good. New fuel filter installed. If it was the fuel pump shouldn't I also have bad idling?

EGR Valve????
Spark plugs with 20K miles on them in the 4.9L ...Its time to change them . Its up to you , But Id recommend the Motorcraft Plugs , BSF 44C gapped at .042 to .046 In . Check for diagnostic trouble codes & fuel pressure . When was the last time the distributor cap & rotor was replaced , As well as fuel & air filters ?

EGR Valve????
There is a shrader valve on fuel rail located at the back of the fuel rail , close to the firewall on the right side of the engine . Youll have to install a fuel psi gauge to that valve & turn the key to run to check the fuel psi . The fuel pump regulator is part of the fuel rail & its located toward the front of the rail . It will have a red vacuum hose attached to it .
