I have a 54 F100 with a Fairlane fiberglass hood and a CCP type tilt hood kit. The problem is that when the hood is closed, there's about a 1-1/2" gap between the hood and fenders. The front to back fit is close and can be adjusted. The rollers are on the guides but can't go down to the bottom level because the hood can't slide further back. Could the Fairlane hinge holes be off that much? Are there different length guides available? Thanks.
Is this the same set up you are talking about, this is a CPP forward tilt kit. Do you have the back of your guide brackets down low enough, is the guide wheels locking into place or resting on top of the bracket.
I will take some photos tomorrow. The wheels are on slanted part of the guide, between the top horizontal guide and the lower double rail that keeps the hood from opening.
On the end of the pc you are calling the double rail there is a 3/8 all thread type adjustment bolt, have you tried adjusting those nuts down or should I say up. You can see the attachment in Johns picture of his set up. Looks like John has about 3/4 of an inch space from the bottom of the rail to the top of the flange. By adjusting those 3/8 nuts so the rail gets closer to the flange the hood lowers down on to the fender. I have my set up about a 1/4 inch gap.
Some photos of my hood and the alignment issue that I'm having. I think the issue is either the length of the guide (too short) or the the placement of the hinge holes on the hood is off. Thanks.
Hood alignment when closed.
You can see the roller position with the hood closed.
This is the approximate location of the roller with the hood closed.
Is it possible that the guide is wrong?
Hood alignment when closed.
Front fit is good and shouldn't be a problem adjusting.
I don't have exactly the same kit as you, but the same style. From looking at your pictures I see 2 things that look different from my setup.
1. The roller mount looks like it could be in a different position, is there only a single mounting point on the hood? Maybe its slightly different on the fiberglass hoods. It looks like it should be further back on the hood as the front to rear alignment looks to be ok.
2. The guide rail looks to be pretty high at the front edge compared to mine, but that shouldn't really affect the closed position. The roller should sit in the parallel slot at the bottom when closed.
It looks like you have the motor in and maybe the inner fenders. But if you are able to get in from underneath and look under the hood, One suggestion is to take the rollers off, carefully position the hood correctly then see where the mounting points on the hood are compared to the guides. you will then see what you are dealing with and the best way to correct (either new/modified guides or new mounting position for the rollers).
My rear guide rail mounting position is taller than yours is. If memory serves me correct, when pushing the hood back to the closed position, if you don't have the rear guide mount high enough it binds the roller against the downward angle of the top rail. All of the above are stellar suggestions, but with this set up remember your accounting for the collapsing of the front to also be in sync with the guides and rollers. Done right, it's effortless to close the hood.

hope that helps.
#1. My thoughts from the beginning - the roller holes are too far forward.
#2. The problem is it can't get down to the parallel slot at the bottom due to #1.
When I pull the hood forward so that I can tilt it, the rollers go off of the guide and the hood drops down. When I close the hood the rollers hit the front of the guide, they do not sit on the guide. Once I put the rollers on the guide, the hood moves easily.
I took some measurements. It is 10" from the back edge of the hood to the center of the roller. Would anyone mind checking the measurement on their hood?
The guide itself is 9-1/4" from the adjustable post to the center of the hole that the fender bolt goes through. The guide itself is about 11-1/2" from the adjusting post to the very front edge.
Your measurements match mine except for the full length of the guide is 14" on mine. Did you make your own guides? The reason I ask is they look higher than mine in the pictures.
The guides came with the truck but it didn't have the rollers, so I have no idea if they are homemade or off another truck. But based on your measurements the problem is definitely the guides. Much cheaper fix than a new hood.
