Have an old set of PIAA 1700X foglamps with one bulb burnt out (proprietary bulbs, not available any more) so I was thinking about popping the working lamp on my rear bumper and hooking it up to trailer plug for an auxiliary reverse light... since we all know how well ours light up the roadway.
Anyways, didn't even think about the fact I do not have a towing package, just the standard equipped hitch and 4-pin plug. Does anybody know if I have the full wiring harness still? If so, where would I tap into it for reverse lights? This is a single 55 watt lamp, so I'm trying to not tie it into the truck reverse light circuit but I also am doing this to use up spare parts so I am not willing to go buy another relay and build a circuit either.
I know you are trying to do this on the cheap but I would ditch the idea of using the PIAA and just buy some Square LED lights from Amazon. You won't be drawing as much wattage and the cost is small. As far as wiring harness goes, you would have to look underneath and trace the 4 pin harness to determine if the wiring is there for the 7 pin as well but a 7 pin harness doesn't have a reverse circuit.

That is not true...I used my 7 pin harness when towing my boat and my boat needed a 5 pin harness so I used an adapter from 7 pin to 5 pin, one of which was reverse to allow me to back up my trailer without locking the brakes.

Sure enough, I stand corrected. There is a circuit for backup lights. I wouldn't use it for direct power to a 55 watt light though.
